Letter from Frederick Maurice Ricketts to Martha Mildred Louie Ricketts (Fell)

Headed note paper - Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad Company
December 31st, 1888 - Room 42, Topeka, Kansas

D Louie

Yours safely to hand, many thanks for good wishes, allow me to return to congratulate you, I hope Fritz A, will be as good a boy as William Ewart and I shall think him a (nish tat??) too.

I did go to Lawrence for Christmas, that is to say I went in the afternoon, and they all wish to send compliments of the season to you and will, and the Aunt says she is glad you are over "it" all right.

I am hoping the New Year will turn out better that the past one to the "old folks at home" and everyone else concerned. It is a serious matter and I cannot help feeling anxious about it. If Will can get time ask him to answer this, I should like to see his fist again. Everything is quiet here, as it is always in the winter. Snow on the ground, sleigh and toboggan etc. all about. Skating and (coasting??) the principal amusements.

I believe if our people were over this side, say round Boston, that they would stand a good chance in the Cloth Trade, with the experience they have. I don’t know any of the firms, but perhaps they might.

Well please excuse the short letter as I have several more to write.

I remain yours affectionately

(Fred??) R

Give my love to Will and the H.V.(other??) inhabitants
